Your Baby Can Read

Kennedy has been watching Your Baby Can Read since she was about three months old. At first I laughed when Brandon sat through the painful infomercial selling the product. I figured he was just trying to get out of picking up the dog poop that had accumulated in the courtyard. I didn't realize how serious he was until he skipped to the mailbox with a childlike anticipation that only Christmas morning brings. Yes, folks, he took it upon himself to order the product...from an infomercial! He'd been duped. Or so I thought.

I couldn't do anything but shake my head and wonder how a baby is supposed to read when they can't even talk. The infomercial hadn't persuaded me like it had Brandon. Nevertheless, I vowed to show Kennedy the video on a daily basis as well as go through the flashcards that came with it. I have to be honest, I fell off the wagon a few times and there's been days and even weeks where she hasn't watched any of the videos. I know, shame on me. But let's be honest, I have to sit through these videos too and I can only handle so much.

Anyways, Kennedy has really been showing an interest in both the videos and the flashcards. As of lately, she's responded to "arms up" and "wave." It wasn't until today that she responded to the words "clap" and "nose." I don't care if she's just hearing the words and doing the action or if she's actually reading them. To me, just seeing her learn is fabulous. It's crazy how smart babies really are.

So with Brandon in my ear telling me "I told you so," I thought I'd give you a little preview of Kennedy learning how to clap and touch her nose. It's precious. (As always, turn your volume up!)

It's a hate/love relationship

I introduced a singing hamster to Kennedy the other day.

I thought everyone loved singing hamsters.

I was wrong.

To a 10 month old, guess they're kind of creepy.

But if you're persistent, you keep trying to forge a bond between the two.

And it helps when you add a little personal space.

I'd say dancing, giggling, and grabbing hamster means success.

(Note: if you watched the videos without sound, you missed out. Singing hamster has some mad vocals)

Roses are red.

And so is Kennedy's dress.

Therefore, I must digress.

It seems Kennedy has mastered the crawl.

However, that's not what's been making her bawl.

You see, she's getting four more teeth.

And that's what's been giving her so much grief.

Despite her problems, she's taught herself to stand.

Which she really thinks is quite grand.

However, the sight makes me shiver with fear.

As I know the possibility of a tumble is near.

I guess this means she'll be walking soon.

Which will, no doubt, turn me into a blubbering baboon.

This will be more evidence that my baby is becoming a thing of the past.

Despite my wishing and hoping that it continue to last.

So I'll continue to watch her grow.

Knowing it's a blessing and what makes me love her so.

If I could bottle her up, I would.

Caught

So Kennedy might be a little vain. I caught her kissing herself in the mirror today. And kissing might even be an understatement. To me, this looks like a full blown make-out session...tongue, sucking and even a little panting involved. It's hard to be in her presence and not want to kiss her, though. So, really, who can blame her for reacting this way? And as Robert Palmer would say, "she used to look good to me, but now I find her simply irresistible."

(Warning: Parents, if you have small children around, please remove them now as this video is PG13)
