It's a bow time

It finally happened.
Kennedy's hair grew.
Grew enough to hold a bow.
The clouds have parted and the sun is shining.
No more mistaking this little one for a boy.
Even though I dress her in pink 90% of the time.
I guess some little boys must wear pink.
But they don't wear bows in their hair.
So goodbye "Oh, isn't HE adorable."
And hello "Oh, SHE is darling."
As a matter of fact, she is darling.
Kennedy Darling, that is.

Valentine outfit (continued)

So the outfit fits! Although, it's close to impossible getting an almost 10-month-old model to sit still long enough to take a good picture of said outfit. Therefore, I had to confine my model in the Bumbo to snap a few pics. My model went through a plethora of emotions in the three minutes she allowed me to snap, snap.

Without further ado, I give you...

Content and happy (it would seem).

Simply bored.

Frustrated and close to losing it.
And it's been lost.

Valentine Outfit

I've been itching to sew something lately and I'm sick of making just shirts, so tonight I tested the waters in the pants department. This was my first time making pants out of a t-shirt...heck, it was my first time making pants whatsoever. As you can see below, it was a (free) t-shirt we got when we went to see Ellen. I got the white t-shirt at Target for $2.50, and the pink fabric was a freebie from mi madre. So I guess that means the whole outfit was $2.50. I loves me a bargain! My model is sleeping on the job right now, so you/I will have to wait to see if it fits. I have a plan B if the pants don't end up fitting...shorts!

Guess it's time to lower the crib mattress

This morning I heard Kennedy talking to herself in her crib. I opened the door and this is how I found her...

Look at those mischievous eyes saying "Yes, Momma, I a big girl now and taught myself how to sit up."

Glad I caught her before she decided it was time to stand.

Damn you rain (continued)

Just so you all know I wasn't exaggerating about the extent of our ceiling drippage, here's some pics to prove the mess. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, get with the program. Ah, now, you know I'm just kidding. No, if you're not following me, skip down to Thursday's post and that'll bring you up to speed.

Damn you rain

So today was what you could classify as a bad day. It's been raining cats and dogs, but you'd think it was raining elephants and rhinos with all of the noise. I loves me some rain but not today. After raining all week, the rain decided it was bored with the outside and wanted to see what it's like on the inside. And, hey, I can't think of a better place to start raining in than your walk-in closet. Yes, oozing from our ceiling and onto our clothes was droplets of water. Drip. Drip. Lucky for me, I have warp speed when it comes to a clothing crisis. So I quickly collected all of our plastic bowls and buckets and started my assembly line of water preservers. And things were looking good until my phone fell out of my pocket and landed right in the middle of one of my WATER preservers. How grand. I actually made a basket without even trying.

So at this point I'm thinking someone's testing my patience, testing my will not to scream uncle. And then I hear Kennedy crying. Sure enough, the clock confirms my fear. Kennedy has cut her LONG nap an hour short. No biggie, though. I needed a breath of fresh air and Kennedy is just that in my book. But then I opened her door. For the love of all that's holy, what is that smell? Ah-ha. I finally understood what was going on here. Kennedy had pooped herself awake. Never before has she pooped while napping...until today. But it just makes sense that it would happen today. So I start the process of changing her. Unfortunately, the process is brought to an abrupt stop when I realize we're out of wipes...the wipes I was going to pick up at Costco today but couldn't because our streets are flooded from all of the rain. Really? But I thought bad things only came in threes. I'm on, like, four. And then Kennedy dips her foot in her poo and gives life to number five. Perfect. I prefer odd numbers anyways.

At this point it's about two o'clock. Dare I go on with the rest of my day or shall I just curl up in a ball and rock myself to sleep? I decided to roll the dice and go on with my day. So I took Kennedy into our room where we've been working on the forward crawl. The girl has mastered the backwards crawl but isn't embracing going forward as much as we hoped. So as we practiced, I decided to snap some pictures. And it was during this photo session that my mood changed. Ah, Kennedy, my breath of fresh air. How can I not be happy when you make me smile so much.

And there you have it, my bad, rainy day. It's almost nine o'clock and our last ceiling drip problem solver has left for the day. They're expected back tomorrow a.m. and the rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend. Lovely. I could never live in Seattle.

One reason why I love my friends

I know I've mentioned before that I have fabulous friends, but seriously 'tis true. I did, however, forget to mention that some of my friends have amazing talents...like craftiness. With all the benefits I reap from being friends with such talent, I'm always a bit surprised their friendship comes without an annual fee. Seriously, you want to be friends with me for no charge when I give you nothing but the gift of gab and you give me, well, you give me this....

No, my friend did not give me Kennedy. But if you have the strength to take your eyes off her sweet face, take a look at what she's wearing. Ah, yes, the sweet, breathtaking tutu. My friend Stacey sent this to me a few weeks ago. When I opened the package and the tutu danced out, I admit it was love at first sight. I'm a little miffed, though. Why did Stacey fail to make one in my size? She probably knew I'd never take it off and was saving me from awkward moments at the grocery store, dry cleaners, church, etc. Regardless of her reason, I'm so thankful that Stacey finally got her groove back and is once again crafting. So thank you, Stacey, for such a thoughtful, sweet and extremely perfect tutu for little miss thing.

Even Kennedy had to applaud at how well it fit and looked.

Mind vs. Body or Insane vs. Sane

I had just slipped into bed, removed my glasses, turned out the light, moved the dog/space heater to my husband's side of the bed, said a prayer, poked one leg out from under the covers to act as my thermostat and finally closed my eyelids.

Zzz...or so I thought.

Jerk. Sputter. Clink. Grind. Purr. And the wheels in my head are turning again despite my effort to shut them down. My body, however, refuses to acknowledge my mind's sudden interest in moving full steam ahead and rolls over. But the sputtering and clinking are just too loud to bear. My body, being the sane one here, screams at my mind to shut down and go to sleep. After all, it's 9:30 and already a half hour past bedtime. My mind, being the persistent and insane one, fights back and argues that she has some ideas for a good blog post and needs my body to get up and assist her. However, my body is stubborn and doesn't budge. At this point and for the purpose of this story, I'll refer to my body as "Sane" and my mind as "Insane." (Note: I do recognize that both are me and, therefore, I am them. Thus, proving that I talk to myself and giving away the fact that I should probably be telling this to a shrink rather than you poor souls). Anyway, Insane gives Sane the stink eye and protests that she is really onto something and needs Sane to get out of bed and grab the laptop. Sane shivers at the thought and declares that Insane is going to have to do this one alone because she's opting for sleep. Insane ponders her options and decides to mentally write her post, save it and restore it later when Sane is more willing to help. And so Insane starts her brilliant post. Type. Type. Type.

Zzz.

Jerk. Sputter. Clink. Grind. Purr. A groggy Sane abruptly opens her eyelids to find darkness and the sound of the oscillating fan. Struggling to grasp what time it is and what has woken both her and Insane up, she squints at the clock only to find that it's 12:30. Remembering that Insane had been pestering her hours ago about some stupid blog post, she realizes that this brilliant idea of Insane's had followed Insane into what would have been REM land and annoyingly nudged her until both her and Sane were fully awake. Hence, the wheels in Insane's mind were spinning on all cylinders again and she was not going to doze off unexpected this time. Sane is furious at this point and explains to Insane that sleep is a gift from God and this is one gift they should not refuse. But it's too late. Insane is already typing. An hour later, Insane finishes her post and puts her mental laptop away and goes to bed.

It's the next day and Sane and Insane come together as one again and head to the real laptop. The sparring match is over and they can finally put Insane's mental blog post in writing. Sane's army patiently awaits on the computer's home keys for Insane's commands. Blink. Blink. Blink. Insane blushes, gathers her tail that's now between her legs and tries to distract Sane with the thought of chocolate. Sane screams back that she's not going downstairs for chocolate, that she's staying right here so they can get Insane's so-incredible-that-it-couldn't-wait-until-morning post done and that's where Insane was staying too. Insane can see that Sane is impatient now and has to think quick. Insane tries to persuade Sane into taking a nap because, after all, sleep is a gift from God; right? The dancing around is not fooling Sane and she demands some words to type for the post. Finally, Insane admits defeat and confesses that she has nothing. She can't remember a thing from last night's mental post except that she thinks it had something to do with Kennedy. Sane, being too sane to punch herself, mutters under her breath that Insane is, in fact, insane and reminds her that 99% of her posts are about Kennedy so, of course, it probably had something to do with Kennedy. Insane shrinks down, shrugs and nonchalantly explains that in her attempt to get the mental post done quickly it seems that she forgot to press the save button. Sane is boiling by this point and threatens to down a bottle of wine, telling Insane that that will not only get her to finally shut up and sleep but she'll enjoy watching her throb for the next two days. Insane is speechless. She apologizes and promises to listen to Sane the next time she tells her to shut up and sleep. No more mental posting she says. After an hour of wasted time staring at the computer, Sane and Insane make up and go downstairs for some chocolate.

And here we are now. Unfortunately, no brilliant post for you today, just my thoughts on how we got to this point. But I do have a little piece of advice for you. If you're ever laying in bed and your mind won't let you sleep because it's pondering it's next blog post, either a) get out of bed, grab your laptop and appease the persistent booger or b) get out of bed and take a sedative...that'll shut it up and you'll be sleeping in no time.

Catching up

Now that our company has filtered out, I feel like I have a little time on my hands to finally blog about New Year's Eve. Last NYE I was slumbering by 9 o'clock. This year I beat last year's bedtime, but not by much. We had a crazy party that lasted all of four hours and none of us made it to midnight. I think I kissed Brandon at about 11 and called it good. It wasn't until the fireworks went off at midnight that I knew the new year had arrived. Regardless, it was a perfect night. Chef BoyarDoug did a fabulous job keeping me away from any hope of not gaining weight this holiday season by having a scrumptious assortment of goodies. And Angela brought one of the most divine things to ever touch my lips...sangria. Food + alcohol = goodnight. Like I said, though, it was a perfect night. Good friends, laughter, family who willingly helps out, no worries about driving, my babe close at hand and did I mention the sangria. We're already a week into 2010, but here's to a fabulous year full of many things to be thankful for. Cheers!
