April

So far April has been a big juicy month for the H house.  First, we started out with a big golden birthday, then we spread on some sweet Easter treats and bunny greets, put a big glop of "happy" in there with a birthday trip to Disneyland, and garnished it with an outing to feed ducks, splash our way through a splash pad and have a pizza picnic.

Yes, this little girl turned three on the third.

Golden.

Just like her.

Out of the slew of presents she received, she took a liking to a cash register and a big carrying case full of makeup.

I'm lacking a picture of the register, but the makeup has been documented.

Insert Exhibit A:

The Easter Bunny.

What can I say, you're very well liked, but you've got nothing on the Disney Princesses.

But thanks for all of the candy.

Especially the PEZ.

And now for Disneyland.

If you grow faint at the sight of any or all Disney characters, this is the time to part.  Hands down this was Kennedy's favorite attraction at Disneyland.  Her little three-year-old heart skipped a million beats when she feasted her eyes on Tiana.

And it did a double flip when Ariel asked her for a hug.

Her face spoke a thousand words of pure joy, excitement, and wonder.

But when Belle wrapped her yellow satin gloved hands around Kennedy's waist, looked her in the eyes and said, "Who's your favorite princess," only then did a serious look come over Kennedy's face.  Following the princesses' lead, she locked eyes with Belle and replied, "Tiana."  And only then did we have kind of an awkward princess moment.

However, it was nothing a hug couldn't cure.

And then there was day two of our trip.

It was a wet one.  However, unlike many park goers that day, we came prepared. While the rain came pouring down and people in shorts and flip flops ran for cover, the Hokenstads put one galosh in front of the other and chose any ride desired as there was no lines, no waiting.

The spinning lady bugs was Kennedy's favorite.  I lost count, but I believe they rode this ride at least ten times in a row...with no getting off since no one was in line.

It seems like when the grandparents are in town we do special things.  Take trips to the zoo, skip baths and stay up later, eat at new places, and drive 40 minutes to parks we reserve only for special days.

Today, the ducks were out and biting and they weren't picky about the grub we handed out.  On the menu: Club crackers, oyster crackers, pretzels, leftover pepperoni pizza and a lone butt end piece of bread.

So, the 40 minute drive was totally worth it; however, Kennedy let me know that I failed to make her duck experience all that it could be.  As we headed to the car, she stopped in her tracks, turned around and said, "Mom, you forgot to show me the duck poop!" Indeed, I had completely forgotten that I told her I would point out what duck poop looks like.  Mother fail of the week.
